Monday Mission Accomplished

Today I got about half of the work done for the office that was supposed to be done by the first, but, no big. I had to do some birthday shopping for a friend of mine, I bought her the new Norah Jones CD, who I don't like, but she really does. Then I came home to find Chris home too. A low day at work so he got the day off.

I mentioned that my mom and step dad gave us $ for Christmas to help add on to the house. Until then, we are cramped. Our house is small and we have a lot of stuff. Much more than we need, of course. And since Christmas, it has been feeling smaller and smaller.

Chris came up with the amazing idea to get rid of the kids' beds. This was awhile ago. It was perfect because their beds take up so much room in their bedroom, but they NEVER sleep in them. Our kids sleep in the living room. They always have. In fact, the first nights that we brought them each home, Chris and I slept with them between us on the living room floor. Now Ivy sleeps on the couch and Bec sleeps on our loveseat. For some reason, I feel safer with them in the main room, instead of their room. It's weird but that is how our family works. I asked around too and my friend Jme's kids sleep on the floor in their bedroom and my sister's kids also sleep in the living room. My brother's kids sleep in his room. Go figure. My friend Jme said that her kids' crib was used as a laundry basket until they put it in storage. That sounded so familiar.

I wasn't able to take the beds down, then get them storage ready for the garage on my own. I asked Chris that when he had a day off next, that we would work on the kids' room. When I got home I found Ivy's bed already stripped and taken down and put back in the box in the garage. He was in the process of getting to Bec's crib. When I walked in he was disappointed. He said, 'I wanted to have this all done by the time you came home!' It was one of the sweetest things.

Ivy walked in and started to bawl. I totally forgot to prepare her and she needs prep for stuff like this. Once we explained how this made more room for her toys, she was fine. They played in there a lot tonight. I know that it won't last.

This week I'm going to take everything out of their room. Sweep it out, mop. Wipe down the walls. Then I"m going to put things back one at a time, hopefully getting rid of a ton of things in the process. It already feels like we have gained so much more space. It is exciting.

We also watched 'My Super-Ex Girlfriend' which I would not recommend. It was a very nice day.

I agree, My super Ex wasn't all that great.

I am glad that Ivy felt better about things, my daughter also needs a little prepping for big changes. :O) we have 2 bedrooms, and the girls share a room. whe I say share I mean their beds are mattresses on the floor, with toddler safe toys... But Anna sleeps in our room with one of us during the week so that Emma doesn't keep her awake on school nights. because em has been so sick lately, she wakes up alot during the night so one of us ends up in her bed. Not that that would matter, one of us has to sleep in there in Anna's bed anyway.

We weren't able to sell our house, 3 times now! So we are going to try to finish our walk up attic as a bedroom for me and John. We were thinking though that since Anna pretty much has taken over our room ( we had to set her barbie stuff up in our room because it's all chokable, it's the only room in the house that Em can't get to), that we might as well just let her have our room... But then where do mommy and daddy get to have "snuggle time"? ;O) so we are stuck for now.

We're a "Musical Beds" family ourselves. Our best investment was in a king-sized bed. And yes, all 5 of us have ended up in it at one time! But...we slept...and that's all that matters with little ones in the house.

we too have got to do something about the lack of space and the surplus of stuff! we'd like to finish the basement into bedrooms and a bathroom for the girls - but i've got 12 years of accumulation of stuff down there that has to go first! *sigh*

i'm glad you're making progress! maybe it'll inspire me!

Within the last month, our almost 7yr old son is sleeping in his bed. What's great about it is, it's a Cptn's Bed so it has 4 drawers and one storage space below the mattress.
Good Luck with your renovations! I can relate to our house getting smaller since Christmas, I'm going to have to divide the toys. Some to give away, some to send to Grandma's house and the rest can stay here!
I'm glad Ivy is feeling better about things. Katelyn is the same way. We need to reassure her of things that have changed or of something that will affect her in some way.

It's great that your making more space for them. I could see it becoming frustrating if you want to stay up late in the living room though and that's where they go to bed?

I hear you about "Super Ex Girlfriend." I was disappointed too.
