Sickie Baby Update

Sickie baby is very sickie. He is in the hospital for an overnight stay after being admitted this morning.

He is doing so much better now.

I called the doc first thing this morning and described what was going on. They had me bring him in right away and as soon as Dr. W saw him he said, "This is not like Bec at all." No pneumonia, but they think that he is having an asthma reaction to his virus. His ears look better though.

Dr. W. said that he was borderline on sending him in because he was not severe and 1 in 5 kids come out with a worse infection from the hospital. My first words were, "I want to admit him." So he put in the orders.

I started to second guess myself and I ended up calling my brother for advice. He said that 1 in 5 kids is only 20%. He also said that since we really don't know what is going on, the hospital would be the best place for him. I felt better after that.

My mom met me and thank God she did. Having his IV and blood draws were torture. He was so listless and dehydrated that his blood work had to be done 3 times due to "collapsing" (I think that is what they said) This morning he could barely lift his head, was breathing super fast and looked grey. By the time the second bag of saline was in him he looked so much better but still wouldn't open his eyes. Dr. W came in and checked on us and said that I had made the right choice.

Ivy is possibly staying with my sister tonight which will be the first time EVER we have been apart. My sis will call me f she starts to freak out. Chris and I flipped a coin on who is staying in the hospital first and I won. I left after Bec fell asleep. I'll head back in about 5 hours to switch shifts.

Like I said, he is so much better. I'll keep you all posted. We should be home tomorrow.

Poor little thing!! Poor all the rest of you too! This stuff is no fun. You made a really good call Karianne. Chalk it up to mother's intuition. So glad we have that!!
