I finished my contribution to Cheryl's journal today and I finally got it to a point that I am really liking it.
When Mary brought it to me and was telling me about the "journey" theme, I got really nervous. I am NOT a traveling type of gal and I started wondering about what types of journeys I could focus on. The journey inward? The journey to a balanced life? Blah. Thankfully I was listening to a great book on tape at the time in my car about a piano tuner who travels to Burma to tune a piano for HMS in the 1800s. That connection got my mind churning. The words during different parts of the book were lyrical and poetic. After quoting 3 separate segments of the book, I had my pages!
I used a lot of computer images to get the feel of "Burma" and the parts of the story that I chose. I used paper cement on the recommendation of Jen and it really dries smooth. Amazing. I also got pretty stoned since I had to use so much of it. Since the kids were at daycare, it was an added bonus! (joke) I also used crayons, sharpies and some frayed fabric threads from a scrap donation from Wendy. I worked on it a lot on Tuesday at Wendy's house with Linda. They had wonderful comments about the page, but it really didn't feel finished to me yet. I always love how my pages "pop" but these felt too polished. I was at a loss.
Until today. This morning I came across some beautiful paper that was a gift from my friend Bonny from one of her China trips. Cutting through it, and adding it into certain spaces, especially the red and white really helped the feel. I then dry brushed a vibrant red in sections and it came alive.
Check back in a couple of days and I'll post the scans.
Thanks to everyone who is participating. I am loving this!
All love,
Karianne
